FSC printed projects are run using papers that are independently certified to meet Forest Stewardship Council standards and produced by certified printing companies. The standards FSC sets are to ensure the wood and pulp used in the production process are grown, harvested and manufactured to high environmental standards. All parts of the manufacturing process are audited to ensure adherence to these standards. If all of the standards are met, the projects can be considered FSC certified and contain the FSC tree and check mark logo. A printed project containing the FSC logo is a better indicator of environmental stewardship than simply using recycled paper with the recycled logo, and makes a stronger, more positive statement about your company or organization.

Soy based inks are a more environmentally friendly alternative to using petroleum based inks. They are made from non-toxic oils extracted from soy beans and combined with pigments, resins and waxes to produce a color that is simultaneously brighter and more easily biodegradable than the older petroleum based inks. By using soy-based inks, you are supporting a local (U.S.) crop that creates less pollution for the environment and is a “safe, sustainable and renewable resource”.

 

Aqueous coating is a protective finish that is more environmentally friendly than UV coating and exceeds the quality of varnish. It is a fast-drying, water-based, protective coating which is applied while the paper stock is on press to achieve a smooth, glossy finish. This water-based coating dries quickly and is resistant to smudges and fingerprints. In addition, aqueous coated materials work well with ink-jet printing for direct mailers.
